Mike Thompson studied meteorology in the Navy and was assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Lexington. He then built a successful career in broadcasting, much of it as a well-known figure on two Kansas City television stations before retiring at the end of 2018. He won numerous awards and recognitions for his work.

Mike has always been heavily involved in our community, and, for five years, he has served in the Kansas Senate, building bipartisan coalitions to enact common-sense solutions into law. Mike and his wife have three children and 10 grandchildren and have lived in Shawnee since 1983.
